Best Physical Feature

Oh dear! This is going to be hard. And sadly not because I like too many things to choose from. I am very self critical so …

I think perhaps my high cheek bones. A lot of people comment on them and they do help me hold my age really well. So yes, my cheek bones.

Can we stop talking about this now?! *sigh*

31 Day Blog Challenge: Day Nine (Worst Habits)

Worst Habits

My worst habit by far is critical self talk. I catch myself giving myself a serve more often than I like to admit. I’m working on this with mindful meditation and identify it when it’s happening pretty quickly these days.

As they say: we are our own worst enemy. And that sure has been the case with me. I am determined to eliminate this habit from my repertoire this year.

Your mind believes

Another habit which could be considered bad by some (but not me) is that I wash my hands a lot! And by a lot, I mean A LOT! Not because I’m a germaphobe. It’s just a habit to do it after I touch food, cleaning products, pet food and pretty much anything 😐 I do also notice when others don’t wash their hands at all and that is a real turn off for me.

What’s In My Handbag?

Fortunately, I have recently cleaned out my handbag. I travel a lot so my handbag is usually packed.

Today:

  • iPhone (I never leave my phone at home because I love it! However, I want to work on that)
  • Wallet
  • Notebook (even though I have an iPhone I still like to write from time to time)
  • Earphones
  • Contact Lenses (I’m blind)
  • A book (work has wound down for me atm so if I decide to pull up in a park to read, so be it)
  • Positive affirmation card (I don’t usually have this in my bag. I’m focus on one per week atm)
  • Big Red chewing gum (it’s delicious)
  • Hand cream (in the hope that I will use it but I never do)
  • Lipstick (I don’t wear a lot of makeup but I love a nude lippy)

Pet Peeves

I have two pet peeves:

  1. Lying – I don’t understand why anyone would choose to lie because the truth is always enough.
  2. Grammar Nazis – I really appreciate good grammar, don’t get me wrong, but there seems to be a trend of people on social media at the moment banging on about how they hate bad grammar. Is this is an attempt to prove to the world how clever they are? I get that it is not hard to get the basics right but when someone corrects someone else’s grammar on social media, I find it really annoying. I mean, they understand what they were saying so… And language is changing  so those people who are still trying to impress their grade five english teacher should just get over it 😉

Pregnant Until Proven Otherwise

9 Jan

Well, here I am, day two of the two-week wait. PUPO! (Pregnant Until Proven Otherwise!)

I’ve never really dreaded the two-week wait like some other ladies I have spoken to. I find it relatively easy to keep busy and two weeks just seems to fly by for me.

I started with the intention of doing an IVF cycle but five weeks later I only had one decent sized follicle. My specialist told me that recent research had indicated that women my age have just as much chance of falling pregnant with one follicle/egg through IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) as with IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation).

With an IUI, sperm is collected, “washed” in a laboratory to concentrate the sperm and remove seminal fluid and then slowly injected via a catheter into the woman’s uterus.

IVF involves surgery to remove eggs from a woman’s ovaries that have been stimulated with drugs to produce multiple eggs. The eggs are then mixed with sperm in the laboratory and fertilization hopefully takes place.

With only one follicle, there is always the risk that an egg won’t be collected during the delicate procedure. And IVF costs a lot of money so considering this risk is important.

I’ve also recently read about some fertility clinics misrepresenting IUI success rates because it is more profitable for them to have their patients undergo IVF procedures. I do believe this is rare however, I have witnessed women going through IVF blindly trusting what their doctors say without asking questions. If there are dodgy doctors out there (and I’m not suggesting you should suspect your doctor), the infertility market would be an easy one to manipulate. I’m all for asking questions and being aware of options. You can read this article here.

Anyway, IUI it was. And of course,  I feel very positive about it!

Hubby’s sperm was washed and had a good sperm count. I had a relaxing morning laying back watching beautiful underwater images on a screen while said sperm was introduced to my uterus.

And now, I take it as easy as I can possibly manage. Because I am pregnant until proven otherwise.

My 5 Senses Right Now

Sight: I’m sitting on my deck overlooking the Australian bush in all it’s glory. I am particularly taken by the angophoras (red gum trees) at the moment. They have shed their old bark revealing their new smooth salmon-pink bark which pops against the brown and green of the bush.

It must be happy hour because a party is going on with a variety of small birds in my garden: finches, blue wrens, yellow robins. I love my yard and the surrounding bush!

My dog is at my feet.

Sound: I can hear the water furiously traveling down the creek in the valley below. We’ve had a lot of rain recently and the creek is pumping.

Yellow robins are playing and rustling in the grapefruit tree and the sweet conversation of the small birds as they dance around the garden is so pleasing.

Touch: My dogs fur is inhabiting my entire right foot. It is slightly damp as he has just had a bath. With the entire deck to choose from, on a warm day, he chooses to lay on my foot.

Smell: The oatmeal shampoo I used on my dog is mixed with occasional wafts of burnt BBQ, which is not pleasing because I am a vegetarian. My husband really needs to give the BBQ a good clean.

Taste: Dark cocolate rocky road I made a few days ago. The tang of the cranberries with the salty peanuts are delicious. I wash it down with a milky english breakfast tea.
